WHAT IS TELEHEALTH?
Telehealth is a term used to describe the distribution of medical and health-related services via electronic information and current communication technology. It allows for long-distance patient-professional relationships and can maintain the level of care that they would be provided if they were at the physical location.
Telehealth has been traditionally used to assist patients with limited mobility or patients without the ability to physically visit a facility for whatever other reasons may be present in their everyday lives.
As of late, in accordance to the news and spread of an illness known as Coronavirus, telehealth is becoming more sought out to help patients who would generally be well enough to visit the facility, but can’t due to sickness or distancing from social gatherings.
BENEFITS OF TELEHEALTH
Telehealth is a beneficial service that has recently begun to be offered. It is important that those in need get the help that they deserve, and if they are unable to receive treatment in the traditional way, then at least they are still able to receive the treatments in general. This is especially true during times of global shutdown because there is already enough stress without having to think about where a patient will or will not receive vital treatment.
With telehealth, there is an added level of safety for all parties involved. In times of outbreak, it is important to not only keep the patient safe and away from hostile diseases that could put them in imminent danger, but it is also important for keeping the medical professional safe that has to continue work through challenging times. If our doctors and medical staff are not able to manage their own personal health, then there is no way that treatment can even be provided to patients.
Telehealth also provides additional advantages on the economic side of healthcare. With telehealth, there is no transportation or time costs, no need to take time off of work to schedule appointments or visit those appointments, and the eliminated need of child or elder care while the patient visits their medical provider.
